Spa Filter Care

One of the simplest things that you can do to ensure the longevity of your spa is to make sure your filter is clean. The filter in your hot tub is like the liver in the human body, it processes out the dirt and grime like our liver filters toxins. If your filter is not taken care of you can see serious problems with your spa.

The general rule is to replace your spa filter at least once a year, more often if your spa sees heavy use.

Other than replacing your filter regularly you also need to clean your filter once a week. To do this is a fairly simple and quick process.

Remove the filter from your spa

Rinse off the filter with clean water from a garden hose. Spray at an angle with a moderately heavy spray to remove any debris that may be attached to the filter. Do this until the water runs clear.

Every 90 days (more frequently if your spa sees heavy use) use a filter cleaner such as Rendezvous Filter Fresh to clean your filter thoroughly. Avoid dish detergents, laundry detergents, or any other household cleaner. Filter Fresh is a liquid formulation of grease-cutting compounds and other ingredients designed to remove body oils, suntan lotion, grease and other organic material, as well as scale and mineral buildup from filter media. Filter Fresh works by mixing 16 oz. with 2.5 gallons of clean water and soaking your filter in it for 12 hours.

Once you remove the filter from the Filter Fresh solution, rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
